The Nanaimo 2007 BC Seniors Games have officially come to a close and the torch has been passed on to Prince George the next host community.

It was a privilege and honour to have served as President of the society and to be involved with the planning of this amazing event. I have sincere admiration for the Nanaimo 2007 BC Seniors Games board of directors and the hundreds of volunteers that worked with such dedication and enthusiasm to ensure the 'Best' games ever. They have established a protocol that will be valued for other communities for years to come.

The legacy of a renewed sense of community pride was electric in the Harbour City, store merchants, accommodation operators, citizens on the street and those attending the venues all rolled out the red carpet. And the participants raved about Nanaimo's friendly demur and love of community.

The admiration our citizens had for the senior, though young at heart partipants, will be a catalyst for all to reap the positive benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.

As well the economic benefits our community has derived is estimated to be in excess of 2.5 million dollars.

We thank the Province of BC, the BC Seniors Games Society, the City of Nanaimo, and all the Funding and Corporate Partners for making it possible to host a games of this magnitude. It will be one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of our lifetime.
